February fishing can be cold but the big ones are
biting
|
| Why Winter Fish? - White River
winter fishing occurs in November through February. Our winter guests usually come because
they prefer fishing in cool weather, not necessarily because the fishing is
better. They also come to escape for a few days from the deep snow and much colder
northern weather. Ozark winters tend to be mild with daytime temperatures well above
freezing. Those who do not like the hot summer days relish the crisp winter air, but don't
freeze while doing so. Because fishing is good all year, and because there are no closed
trout fishing seasons on the White River, you can pick any month of the year to take a
trip. The river is quieter and more peaceful during the winter months. |

| Shad Kill Fishing - If winter
nights get cold enough the water temperature in Bull Shoals lake drops low enough to kill,
or stun literally millions of shad. As the shad die they flow through the turbines at the
dam into the river. The dead shad trigger a serious big brown trout feeding frenzy. As the
browns gorge themselves on this bounty they become bold and aggressive. You'll see them
like no other time of the year. Needless to say the fishing is as good as it gets, which
is why many trophy fishermen come during the shad kills. For many serious trophy trout
fisherman, fishing the shad kill is the ultimate trout fishing experience! |

A winter day fishing on the river makes a

| Breaking The Cabin Fever Blues
- Our friends up North fight the bitter cold, deep snow, and closed trout seasons. That
does not stop them from dreaming about trout fishing. They've learned they can come
fishing on the White River when back home their favorite fishing holes lay under a foot of
ice during a closed season. And it also relieves the winter cabin fever blues. |
