Look closely along the river shoreline for trees which are half under water. Note that even during high water the river is smooth and flat.

Also notice how David handles his boat with ease. Keep in mind he is driving the boat with one hand while running his camcorder with his other hand while also coaching his customer on boating the fish. When David nets the fish he takes his hand off the motor control arm so he can keep filming. You can't do all of that if the water is "too high to fish"!
